Pancyprian Union “Isotita” teachers will hold a work strike on Thursday from 7:30am to 9am. This continues concerns over the proposed educator and teaching evaluation bill, which retains serious ambiguities, institutional gaps, and lacks transparency despite amendments.
The union showed responsibility by suspending strikes temporarily and offering dialogue. Yet absent genuine institutional talks and insistence on an incomplete framework necessitate escalating pressure.
Flaws in evaluation bill
Teachers reject evaluation without clear indicators, institutional distortions, unequal treatment fostering fear and competition over growth, missing safeguards, bureaucracy without pedagogical gain, opacity in promotions and postings, and unproven financial burdens.
Evaluation must improve public schools, not punish teachers – based on transparency, meritocracy, and respect for pedagogy.
The fight persists with pressures until real improvements make it fair, merit-based, and functional. Members urged to join massively, defending public education dignity and quality.
