Justice Minister announced Central Prisons interventions

Justice Minister Konstantinos Fytiris announced immediate interventions on Saturday for Central Prisons overcrowding relief, improved living conditions for inmates, and upgraded supervision and control.

This followed his morning visit to Central Prisons to assess conditions related to the unnatural death of a young foreign convict.

Briefed on preliminary investigation findings

After inspecting holding areas, the Minister received updates from Central Prisons management and Police on preliminary investigation findings regarding the convict’s death.

He directed swift completion of probes to clarify circumstances surrounding the inmate’s death.

Informs president of broader issues

The Minister then met President Nikos Christodoulides, briefing him on the death and overall Central Prisons conditions.

Fytiris assured the President of his determination for rapid, substantial, and comprehensive Central Prisons interventions, beyond prior actions, to address longstanding problems.
