Government Spokesman Konstantinos Letympiotis announced the official visit of UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed al Nahyan to Cyprus on December 14, 2025, at the invitation of President Nikos Christodoulides.
This marks the first UAE President Cyprus visit, confirming the new dynamic in bilateral relations and their strategic depth and maturity.
Political significance of the trip
The visit holds special political importance, signaling the transition from strategic alignment to implementation, focusing on concrete deliverables and tangible results.
It serves as a strong message of confidence in the Republic of Cyprus as a reliable partner and stable hub in the Eastern Mediterranean amid regional challenges.
Key meetings and discussion topics
During his stay, the UAE President will hold private talks with the Cypriot President, followed by expanded delegation discussions.
Central topics include upgrading bilateral relations with emphasis on investments, energy, and economic cooperation; Cyprus’s upcoming EU Council Presidency on January 1, 2026; EU-Gulf relations; regional developments; and the Cyprus issue.
Concrete cooperation initiatives expected
The visit anticipates specific cooperation initiatives in key sectors, forming a practical roadmap for implementing the strategic partnership.
Notably, UAE ministers and officials are in Cyprus, having attended an investment forum with Invest Cyprus and the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry, alongside a UAE Chamber representative and business delegation to bolster investment ties through stable structures and mature projects.
At the meeting’s conclusion, both Presidents will adopt a Joint Declaration highlighting the decision to further upgrade the strategic relationship between the two countries.
