Joint visit by the President and Erhürman to the CMP laboratory

Christodoulides sets clear goal ahead of meeting

President Nikos Christodoulides underlined that the Cyprus talks require political will to restart from where they stopped in Crans-Montana. Speaking before leaving the Presidential Palace for the Committee on Missing Persons (CMP) Anthropological Laboratory and a joint meeting with Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhürman and UN envoy María Ángela Holguín, he said he approaches today’s discussion with concrete ideas and specific proposals.

The President stressed that today’s meeting holds particular importance. “I am ready. I have ideas and concrete suggestions so we can hold a substantive discussion that pushes toward restarting negotiations from where they ended in Crans-Montana,” he said.

He noted that Erhürman’s recent reference to UN Security Council resolutions confirms a shared basis. “What we need now is political will,” he added, repeating that his objective is to reignite the process with practical proposals.

Focus on confidence-building measures

Christodoulides said the meeting will also address confidence-building measures, which should advance in parallel with the negotiating process. He expressed hope for positive developments.

President to raise missing persons issue

Asked whether he would raise the issue of missing persons given the stalemate, the President was clear: “There is indeed a deadlock. I have specific ideas and proposals because if we truly want progress in this humanitarian matter, we must act; not simply take photos or issue statements.”
He said he hopes for a constructive response to the proposals he intends to table today.
