Larnaca named European Capital of Culture for 2030

Date:

Larnaca will serve as the European Capital of Culture for 2030.

The full announcement reads:

We announce with particular joy and pride that Larnaca has emerged as the European Capital of Culture for 2030, securing one of the most important cultural distinctions. The decision of the competent European committee represents a historic moment for the city and a milestone for the cultural development of the whole of Cyprus.

The selection of Larnaca reflects the vision, creativity and dynamism that the city demonstrated, presenting a comprehensive programme of actions that connects cultural heritage with contemporary artistic expression, social participation and sustainable development.

This distinction is not only an honour for Larnaca, but also a great opportunity to strengthen cultural life, promote innovation, boost the local economy and enhance the city’s international presence.

Warm congratulations go to all those who worked with dedication to achieve this goal: cultural bodies, artists, local community groups, volunteers and, of course, the citizens of Larnaca, who supported and inspired this common effort.

Larnaca now proceeds with dynamism to the implementation phase of the 2030 programme, ready to offer a unique cultural experience to the whole of Europe.
