VIDEO: Lawmakers clash in Turkish Parliament

Date:

Tensions erupted in the corridors of the Turkish Parliament ahead of discussions on the 2025 budget for the Ministry of Interior.

A brawl broke out between members of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) and the main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) over the administration of municipalities. The altercation occurred as Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya entered the assembly. Yerlikaya began his presentation to the parliamentary committee after a one-hour delay.

AKP spokesperson Ömer Çelik condemned the incident, stating, “The attack by some CHP lawmakers on our Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya in Parliament is barbaric. We condemn this attack. No one can silence our Ministers and lawmakers.”
