Armenian Catholicos Aram I begins official visit to Cyprus

His Holiness Aram I, Catholicos of the Great House of Cilicia of the Armenian Apostolic Church and spiritual leader of the Armenian-Cypriot community, arrives in Cyprus today on an official visit to celebrate the 30th anniversary of his election and enthronement.

He is accompanied by senior clergy and the two co-chairs of the Armenian National Central Council.

The Catholicos will be welcomed at Larnaca Airport by Archbishop Komitas of the Armenians in Cyprus, MP Vartkes Mahdessian, and community leaders.

Programme highlights

  • Official audience with President Nikos Christodoulides
  • Meeting with Archbishop Georgios of Cyprus
  • Visits to the new Armenian Embassy, Armenian parishes in Limassol and Larnaca, and Nareg Armenian School in Nicosia
  • Saturday evening: Gala anniversary dinner
  • Sunday: Patriarchal Divine Liturgy at the Sourp Asdvadzadzin Cathedral in Nicosia, followed by reception at the Armenian Prelacy

The visit underlines the strong historical and spiritual ties between the Armenian-Cypriot community and the Catholicosate of Cilicia.
