Six-year-old girl rescued after near-drowning in Limassol pool

Date:

A six-year-old girl was taken to Makarios Children’s Hospital in Nicosia after she was found unconscious at the bottom of the pool at Tsirio Swimming Centre in Limassol.

The incident occurred on Wednesday 3 December during a “Child and Swimming” session of the Cyprus Sports Organisation’s (KOA) “Sport for All” programme.

According to a KOA statement issued after an emergency meeting of its Control Committee yesterday (Thursday 4 December 2025):

Instructors and staff of the Sport for All programme acted immediately and effectively. Following the established protocol and after administering first aid, the child was in no danger by the time the ambulance arrived.

Thanks to the swift intervention of the staff, the girl is in good health and is being kept under observation as a precaution.

The KOA Control Committee confirmed that the instructors and staff followed the correct procedures. It was noted that all Sport for All programme coaches receive continuous training from the Organisation in first aid and lifesaving techniques.

Police have not been informed of the incident.
