Kremlin identifies positive points in US peace plan

Date:

Kremlin advisor Yuri Ushakov stated today that the latest US peace plan for Ukraine demands serious analysis from Moscow. American and Russian officials did not discuss the plan during a meeting in Abu Dhabi this week.

Informal meeting in Abu Dhabi

Ushakov explained that Russian intelligence representatives travelled to the Gulf city to meet their Ukrainian counterparts and discuss highly sensitive issues, such as prisoner exchanges.

While there, they also met US Army Secretary Dan Driscoll, a US official told Reuters.

Ushakov described the encounter with the American official as unplanned and confirmed that the two sides did not address the latest US peace plan. He declined to reveal the exact topics of conversation.

No detailed discussions yet

“No, the peace plan did not come up in Abu Dhabi. We have not discussed the peace plan in detail with anyone,” Ushakov told Pavel Zarubin, a journalist with Russian state television.

“We have seen it and received it, but talks have not started yet.”

Ushakov stressed that the proposals require truly serious analysis and discussion.

“Some points look positive, but many others need in-depth expert talks,” he said on Russian state television.

Kremlin dismisses European involvement

The Kremlin also called European attempts to play a role in settling the Ukraine conflict futile as diplomatic activity around the US plan intensifies.

“The Europeans keep trying to insert themselves into all these matters in a completely futile way, it seems to me,” Ushakov said.
