Kassianidou to attend informal EU meeting of Culture Ministers

Date:

Deputy Minister of Culture Vasiliki Kassianidou will participate in the Informal Meeting of European Union Ministers of Culture, taking place in Copenhagen on 3–4 November 2025 under the Danish Presidency of the Council of the EU. She departs from Cyprus on Monday to attend the event.

According to an announcement from the Deputy Ministry, the ministers will exchange views on several issues, including the protection and restoration of cultural heritage in Ukraine.

During the meeting, Kassianidou will highlight Cyprus’ experience in combating the illicit trafficking of antiquities. She will present the country’s efforts through international and bilateral cooperation, the implementation of global conventions, and emergency actions coordinated by the United Nations to address the illegal export and trade of cultural heritage.

On 4 November, ministers will discuss ways to ensure reliable access to information in the digital era—considered a cornerstone of democratic societies—and explore Europe’s vision for promoting and safeguarding European content. The aim is to strengthen cultural diversity, competitiveness, and resilience.

A joint declaration is also expected to be signed, emphasizing the need for culture and the media to play a role in upholding European values.

Alongside the meeting, Kassianidou will hold bilateral talks with her counterparts to strengthen Cyprus’s cultural diplomacy ahead of the Republic of Cyprus assuming the Presidency of the Council of the EU on 1 January 2026.

The Deputy Minister will return to Cyprus on 5 November.
