60-year-old cyclist killed after being struck by vehicle

A 60-year-old Austrian man has been identified as the victim of a fatal road collision that occurred on Monday in the Limassol district. The deceased is Gunter Kohrgruber, who was fatally injured when the bicycle he was riding collided with a vehicle driven by a 32-year-old man.

Speaking at the scene, the head of the Limassol Traffic Department, Marios Charalambous, stated that the fatal accident took place at around 1:10 p.m., when the 32-year-old’s car collided with the 60-year-old’s bicycle, which was travelling in the opposite direction on the Pissouri–Platanisteia road.

“As a result of the collision, the cyclist, who was wearing a protective helmet, was killed instantly, while the car driver was subjected to an alcohol and drug test, both of which came back negative,” he added.

He also mentioned that the circumstances of the accident are under investigation. Statements are expected to be taken from individuals who were cycling with the victim, and CCTV footage from the area will be examined.
