Öztürkler resigns from “Parliamentary Presidency” in the north

Date:

Ziya Öztürkler announced his resignation from the “parliamentary presidency” in the north today.

As reported in the occupied territories, in his written statement, Öztürkler mentioned that he participated (as “parliamentary president”) in two significant anniversaries on October 29 (Turkey’s national day) and November 15 (illegal declaration of the pseudo-state).

“We all know the process underway in the parliament at this stage. Personally, I resign from the position of president of the parliament of the TRNC to pave the way for budget negotiations, which are essential for all our people, and to end the ongoing discussions,” he stated.

It is noted that last Thursday, the opposition Republican Turkish Party (RTP) suggested to the National Unity Party (UBP), from which Ziya Öztürkler hails, that they nominate a candidate and restart the process in the “parliament” so the RTP could support him.

The opposition party argued that Öztürkler’s “election” was invalid, claiming that “three of the 26 votes he received in the last round of voting were invalid as they bore two stamps.” For the past five weeks, the “parliament” has effectively been non-functional, and budget discussions have not taken place.
