Gaza flotilla: vessel docks in Larnaca after request

Date:

One of the vessels that took part in the international flotilla bound for Gaza has docked in Larnaca, government spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis confirmed on Friday.

In a post on X, Letymbiotis said Cypriot authorities identified that one of the Gaza flotilla vessels entered the Republic’s territorial waters and subsequently requested permission to dock at Larnaca port, citing refuelling needs and humanitarian reasons.

“The Republic of Cyprus reacted immediately and responsibly, activating the relevant protocols and procedures in line with applicable law and regulations,” the spokesman said.

During the docking process, it was reported that two passengers had chronic health problems. Authorities accelerated the procedure to provide medical care.

According to Letymbiotis, the vessel carried 21 people of various nationalities, including EU citizens and third-country nationals. All were subjected to identity, documentation and security checks. An ambulance was called as a precaution, but medical staff determined hospitalisation was not required.

The spokesman added that the Republic of Cyprus ensured basic needs were met for those on board and provided consular support where required.

“The Republic of Cyprus acted from the very first moment with respect for human life and international humanitarian law, consistently implementing its obligations under national and EU legislation,” Letymbiotis concluded.
