Larnaca police seize bird trapping nets and release 343 birds

Date:

Police in Larnaca carried out a major operation today against illegal bird trapping, conducting a search of a house and fenced field in the district.

During the search, officers discovered and confiscated seven bird trapping nets already set up, along with three more nets found packed in bags.

Authorities also seized five car batteries, eight loudspeakers and four devices that imitate bird calls, used to attract and trap wild species.

A total of 63 dead songbirds (ambelopoulia) were found at the site, while another 343 live birds were released back into the wild after being freed from the nets.

Police said investigations are ongoing, and the case will be further examined in cooperation with the competent wildlife protection authorities.
