EAC warns of new email scam with fake bills

Date:

The EAC email scam is back in focus, with the Electricity Authority of Cyprus warning of new cases targeting consumers. Misleading emails appear as notices of unpaid bills and urge payment through QR code.

According to the EAC, the emails falsely claim there is an outstanding balance on the recipient’s electricity account and prompt them to scan a QR code to complete payment.

The organisation stressed that these emails do not originate from the EAC and are an attempt at phishing.

Consumers are urged to exercise particular caution with emails containing links or attachments, as these may redirect to fraudulent or malicious websites regardless of what initially appears on screen.
