Marinella health update: one year after stroke

Date:

Nearly a year has passed since iconic Greek singer Marinella suffered a stroke during a concert at the Herodion, and her close friend, author Giannis Xanthoulis, has shared a sombre update on her condition.

Xanthoulis, who wrote Marinella’s biography and has long been a close friend, spoke on the programme To’χουμε on Thursday, 11 September. He revealed that sadly there has been no improvement in her health.

“She has no contact with her surroundings,” he said, describing the situation as deeply sad.

“Sleeping beauty”

Reflecting on their bond, Xanthoulis recalled: “I met Marinella when I had to interview her. I call her my ‘koumbara’. I miss her so much. It’s already been a year since her ordeal and it is truly heartbreaking. Nothing has changed in her health.”

He added: “I cannot imagine a woman with such intensity, who at 86 could still electrify the stage, now being absent. As her daughter says, ‘mum is in the room.’ She has no contact with the environment at all. She is the Marinella who sleeps, the ‘sleeping beauty’, as I call her.”

A painful absence

Xanthoulis also described the moment of her collapse on stage as shocking. “We were stunned when Marinella fainted on stage at the Herodion. I was there with her daughter and granddaughter. Her absence is very strong- she suffers, and we suffer too,” he concluded.

The Marinella health update underscores the gravity of her condition, leaving fans and loved ones mourning her absence from public life.
