Attempted murder in Pyla: weapons and stolen car found in Nicosia

Police have located weapons and the stolen vehicle used in the attempted murder in Pyla and arson attack on cars that took place on 14 August at a car yard on the Larnaca–Dhekelia road.

According to police, the case involves conspiracy to commit murder, attempted murder, arson, illegal possession of firearms and explosives, handling of stolen goods, and other offences. Six suspects have so far been arrested by Larnaca CID, with five currently in custody.

Over the past 24 hours, Larnaca CID, in cooperation with other police units and departments, carried out searches in open areas in Nicosia district and at a premises in a village in the area.

During the searches, officers found the stolen car used in the crime. The vehicle was taken for forensic examination, along with other evidence discovered inside.

Police also discovered and seized from a prefabricated building linked to the suspects:

  • 2,170 grams of methamphetamine and 34 grams of cocaine
  • Four pistols, apparently genuine
  • Several rounds of 9mm ammunition
  • Loaded magazines
  • An air rifle with a scope

Yesterday, a 17-year-old suspect was brought before Larnaca District Court in a closed-door hearing. He was arrested in a village in Nicosia district and is alleged to have fired a pistol at a security guard during the incident. The court ordered his remand for eight days.

Investigators continue to examine key evidence, including the stolen car, the pistol used in the attack, the incendiary bottle, clothing and hoods worn by the assailants, and the suspects’ mobile phones, pending the lifting of telephone records.

Four other suspects, aged 17, 23, 27, and 44, remain in custody as the investigation continues.
