Wildfire in Kelokedara brought under control by crews

The wildfire in the “Paoura” area of Kelokedara, Paphos district, has been brought under control.

Five fire trucks from Paphos district stations, supported by three fire engines and a ground unit from the Forestry Department, as well as a portable firefighting unit from the Game and Fauna Service, took part in the operation.

The wildfire in Kelokedara destroyed about two hectares of dry grass and wild vegetation in difficult terrain.

Ground crews were assisted by five firefighting aircraft carrying out water drops. Firefighters will remain on site to ensure full extinguishing and to prevent any possible flare-ups.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
