Fatal accident in Larnaca: Vehicle driven by underage person

Date:

A fatal accident occurred shortly after 7:00 pm yesterday in Larnaca, claiming the life of 18-year-old Julia Michaela Vasile from Romania, a permanent resident of Cyprus. The driver of the vehicle is believed to be a 16-year-old who fled the scene and is currently wanted by police.

According to police, a vehicle carrying four people was travelling along Artemis Avenue towards the old GSZ Stadium when it deviated from its course, mounted the pavement, broke a traffic sign, and violently crashed into a tree, coming to a stop.

The collision resulted in the death of Julia Michaela Vasile, and an 18-year-old asylum seeker from Jordan was lightly injured. Both young passengers were seated in the back of the vehicle.

Immediately following the accident, the 16-year-old driver and a 20-year-old front passenger left the scene on foot.

During the police investigation, it was found that the vehicle involved in the accident had been reported stolen by its owner earlier that afternoon.

The 18-year-old Jordanian asylum seeker will appear in court today for a detention order, while arrest warrants have been issued for the vehicle’s driver and front passenger, who remain wanted.
