AEK crash out of Europa League after 4–0 defeat

Date:

AEK Larnaca have been knocked out of the Europa League Phase League following a 4–0 defeat to Norwegian side Brann on Thursday evening.

After a narrow 2–1 loss in the first leg in Norway, the Cypriot side needed a comeback on home soil. However, the match quickly turned against them when AEK defender Tomás Šimkovič Saboryt was sent off in the 39th minute while the score remained goalless. The red card shifted the momentum, leaving AEK with ten men for the remainder of the game.

Brann took full advantage, opening the scoring through Castro just after half-time in the 46th minute. The visitors then dominated the second half. Hansen doubled their lead on the hour mark, Nilsen made it 3–0 in the 75th minute, and Soltvedt sealed the result with a fourth goal in the 88th.
