UN Secretary-General committed to holding informal expanded talks

Date:

The UN Secretary-General’s commitment to holding informal expanded talks to find common ground for resuming negotiations on the Cyprus issue was reaffirmed by Antonio Guterres’s spokesperson, Stéphane Dujarric, in response to a question from the Cyprus News Agency during a press briefing at the United Nations headquarters in New York.

“As the Secretary-General agreed with the leaders during their informal dinner on 15 October, he looks forward to holding an informal, broader-format meeting in the near future under his auspices to discuss the way forward and remains engaged with the parties on this matter,” Mr Dujarric stated.

When asked about a possible visit to Cyprus by the Deputy Secretary-General, Rosemary DiCarlo, in the coming period, Mr Dujarric replied that “there is no date to announce yet.”
