Nicosia general hospital: 32-year-old kicks police officer

A 32-year-old foreign national caused a violent disturbance at the Emergency Department (TAEP) of Nicosia General Hospital on Friday, 22 August, prompting police to intervene with the use of pepper spray.

According to police reports, the man—who was in handcuffs and being escorted by officers—suddenly became enraged while on a stretcher. In the midst of his outburst, he kicked a female police officer in the face, causing an injury to her eye.

The situation escalated further when the man moved aggressively toward other patients in the unit. Due to the immediate danger he posed, officers were forced to use pepper spray to restrain him.

He was taken into custody and held under a three-day detention order issued the following day. The case has now been referred to the judiciary for further legal proceedings.
