50 year old man remanded after gun found outside kiosk in Nicosia

Date:

A 50-year-old man has been remanded in custody for four days in connection with an investigation into the possession of a firearm and explosives, illegal carrying of a weapon to incite fear, and issuing threats. He was arrested by police on Sunday night in Nicosia following a report about a suspicious individual near a kiosk.

According to the police, the man was stopped shortly before 11 p.m. and arrested for in flagrante offences after a pistol was found during a search of his car. Officers had earlier responded to a report from the kiosk area suggesting the presence of an armed individual.

Further investigation led police to discover a bullet in an outdoor area near the kiosk, which the suspect admitted belonged to him. The firearm appears to be an air pistol, while the bullet was from a conventional firearm. The case is being investigated by the Nicosia CID.
