Police warn of email scam impersonating EAC authority

Date:

The Cyprus Police have issued a warning to the public regarding a fraudulent email scam falsely presenting the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) as the sender. The scam is designed to deceive recipients into revealing sensitive financial information.

According to a statement by the Cybercrime Subdivision of Police Headquarters, several complaints have been received from citizens about misleading emails that appear to originate from the EAC. These emails urge recipients to follow a specific link in order to make an immediate electricity bill payment, under the false threat of service disconnection.

The police clarified that the goal of the perpetrators behind this email scam impersonating EAC authority is to trick users into divulging their banking credentials, ultimately leading to financial theft.

Authorities are advising the public to remain vigilant and not to respond to or click on any links in such messages.
