Police investigate alleged abduction of asylum seeker in Kofinou

Cyprus Police are investigating a case involving the alleged abduction of a Syrian man residing at the Asylum Seekers Reception Centre in Kofinou.

According to police sources, preliminary investigations indicate that the man was picked up by a vehicle carrying three individuals, who had first contacted him by phone. The alleged incident took place at the reception centre in Kofinou.

The suspects are reported to have transported the man to Limassol, where they allegedly assaulted him, before driving him back to Kofinou at approximately 10:30pm on Tuesday night.

The victim is currently giving a statement to police, and will subsequently be taken to the Accident and Emergency Department of Larnaca General Hospital for medical examination.

The case is being handled by the Larnaca Criminal Investigation Department (CID), which is continuing its inquiry into the circumstances of the incident.
