The Cyprus Police will implement Assumption weekend police safety measures between 15 and 17 August, aiming to ensure public safety during the holiday period.
In an official statement, the police announced heightened operations across the island ahead of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary on 15 August. The measures will include increased police presence on major roads and in busy public areas, focusing on traffic control, crime prevention, and maintaining public order.
Action plans will be in place throughout the three-day period—from Friday to Sunday—with officers stationed at key points on the road network to manage traffic, conduct frequent checks, and deter offences known to cause serious and fatal collisions.
Special attention will be given to offences such as driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, speeding, dangerous overtaking, failure to use seatbelts or helmets, mobile phone use while driving, and careless or reckless driving.
In addition to road safety, police will increase both foot and vehicle patrols in urban and rural areas to prevent property-related crimes, including burglaries and thefts.
Assumption weekend police safety measures will also extend to commercial streets, resorts, and other high-traffic areas to protect the public and maintain order.
