Car crash damaged a café-restaurant, man fled the scene

A 53-year-old man is facing multiple charges following a Kalavasos car crash on Tuesday afternoon, which resulted in damage to a café-restaurant and a police investigation.

According to Larnaca Police, the incident occurred at around 4:30 pm near the Kalavasos roundabout. The man, a Greek Cypriot, was driving a saloon car when, under circumstances still being investigated, he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the front of a café-restaurant, causing minor damage to the property.

Following the crash, the driver fled the scene but was soon located by police at the Zygi fishing harbour. Officers reported that the man smelled strongly of alcohol and was asked to provide a sample for a preliminary breath test. He refused to comply and was subsequently arrested.

Police confirmed that a case will be filed today at the Larnaca District Court against the 53-year-old. The charges include careless driving, fleeing the scene of an accident, refusing to undergo a preliminary breath test, driving a decommissioned vehicle, and operating a vehicle without insurance.
