Protest in Athens against wage cuts and inflation

Date:

Thousands of workers and union members gathered in central Athens on Tuesday to protest against wage cuts, inflation, and rising living costs. Organised by Greece’s largest unions, the General Confederation of Greek Workers (GSEE) and the Civil Servants’ Confederation (ADEDY), the demonstration saw participants marching to the Greek parliament, demanding government intervention to protect workers’ purchasing power.

Protesters chanted slogans calling for wage increases, lower taxes, and subsidies for essential goods. Union leaders called on the government to address the financial pressures facing Greek households, stating that inflation has severely reduced workers’ ability to cover basic living costs.

The Greek government has recently announced some support measures, but union representatives argue these are insufficient to offset the impact of prolonged economic challenges. Further demonstrations are planned if more comprehensive economic relief is not introduced.
