Free cash withdrawals from Greek banks’ ATMs from today

Date:

A new regulation from the Ministry of National Economy and Finance comes into force today, fully abolishing charges for cash withdrawals from ATMs of Greek banks, while also introducing a national maximum charge (cap) of €1.50 for withdrawals made from ATMs operated by third-party providers.

The regulation provides for:

  • Zero fees for cash withdrawals between all banks participating in the interbank DIAS system.
  • Abolition of charges by third-party providers when there is a direct or indirect shareholding link with the customer’s bank.
  • Zero charges by third-party providers in municipal communities where only one ATM operates.
  • A cap of €1.50 for withdrawals from ATMs of third-party payment service providers nationwide.
  • Free balance enquiries for all cardholders, regardless of bank or ATM provider.
  • A flat fee of €0.50 for sending remittances via digital channels (web, mobile, internet banking) by third-party providers, matching banks’ charges.
  • Legal provision that no bank may charge its customers for cash withdrawals.
