Two more individuals have been arrested by the Police—specifically the Drug Law Enforcement Unit (YKAN)—in connection with an ongoing investigation into the possession and trafficking of large quantities of drugs, including cannabis, methamphetamine, and cocaine. The arrests follow a coordinated search operation carried out by YKAN on July 29 in Nicosia.
According to a police statement, two men aged 22 and 20 were arrested late last night and shortly after midnight, bringing the total number of arrests to four. Two 21-year-old men had previously been arrested on July 29 and August 6.
The case involves the discovery of 6 kilograms and 342 grams of cannabis, approximately 984 grams of cannabis resin, 713 grams of methamphetamine, 93 grams of cocaine, and 337 handmade cigarettes containing cannabis.
The drugs were found in the apartment of a 21-year-old during a search by YKAN officers on July 29, following intelligence gathering. The 21-year-old was stopped for a check while driving in Nicosia at around 6:30 p.m. on that day. Following the discovery of the drugs in his apartment, he was arrested for drug possession and trafficking.
A second suspect, also aged 21, was arrested on August 6 based on evidence uncovered during the investigation.
Further evidence led to the issuance of arrest warrants against the 22-year-old and 20-year-old. The 22-year-old was arrested at his residence shortly after 8:30 p.m. last night, and the 20-year-old was arrested at his home shortly after midnight.
During the 22-year-old’s arrest, a 21-year-old man was also present at the residence and was arrested for a flagrant offense after a small quantity (approximately 1.6 grams) of cannabis was found in his possession. He was later released and will be summoned at a later stage.
The 22-year-old and 20-year-old remain in custody, while the YKAN Nicosia District Branch continues the investigation, the announcement concluded.
