Dr Nadia Stylianou honored for her poetic work

Date:

The Deputy Ministry of Culture expresses its warmest congratulations to Dr Nadia Stylianou, Senior Cultural Officer in the Department of Contemporary Culture, who has been honoured by the International Academy of Sciences, Letters and Arts, based in Paris, with the silver medal for her poetic work and her career in the field of science.

This honorary distinction recognises not only her distinctive and consistent creative journey and her meaningful contribution to contemporary culture, but also her long-standing and continuous dedication to literature, both in Cyprus and internationally.

Dr Nadia Stylianou has emerged as a prominent voice in contemporary Cypriot poetry, with her work featured at major literary events. She participated in the 5th International Literary Festival “to the sea‑girt shores of Cyprus” in November 2021, where she was one of 22 Cypriot poets featured alongside international writers such as Michael Longley and Bernhard Schlink. Her poems have also been showcased at the Larnaka World Poetry Festival in 2022 under the platform of the Poetry Moves International Festival, reflecting her growing reputation within Cyprus’s literary scene.

Her poetry collections, including Ο χορευτής και ο γητευτής (“The Dancer and the Charmer”, Kastaniotis, 2021), contain powerful pieces such as “Grieving Madonna of the North” and “Antigone” (translated by David Connolly), which explore themes of motherhood, cultural memory, resistance and identity in haunting lyrical verse. Stylianou is also deeply involved in the cultural sphere: she holds leadership roles in organisations such as the Limassol Association of Music and Poetic Arts “Mousagetis Apollo”, PEN Greece’s Cyprus chapter, and served as programme secretary for the Amaravati Poetry Festival in Dhaka, demonstrating her commitment to promoting Cypriot poetry internationally.
