Drunk driver arrest in Ayia Napa results in bribery attempt

Date:

A drunk driver arrest in Ayia Napa turned into a dramatic incident on Sunday evening when the suspect attacked police officers and attempted to flee.

Around 7:15 p.m., members of the Drug Law Enforcement Unit (YKAN) stopped a vehicle driven by a 35-year-old man in Ayia Napa. Officers noticed a strong smell of alcohol, and the driver was uncooperative. He allegedly pushed officers and tried to escape.

The man was arrested on the spot for offences committed in flagrante delicto. He then allegedly offered money to the police in an attempt to be released.

The suspect was taken to a police station, where he underwent an alcohol test. His final reading was 41μg%, almost double the legal limit of 22μg%. After being charged in writing with all related offences, he was released.
