Aglantzia fatal Crash: Driver still at large one week later

Date:

Today marks one week since the tragic fatal accident in Aglantzia which resulted in the death of 20-year-old Kyriakos Antoniou from Agios Dometios.

The collision occurred at around 1:20 a.m. on Larnakos Avenue in Aglantzia, as Antoniou was driving from the University roundabout towards Nicosia. Under circumstances still under investigation, his car collided with another vehicle driven by a 24-year-old man, who had a 23-year-old passenger. Both were taken to Nicosia General Hospital and discharged after receiving first aid.

As a result of the collision, the 20-year-old’s vehicle veered off course and crashed into a traffic light pole, where it came to a halt.

Other driver remains at large

Police say investigations into the fatal crash are ongoing. Last Thursday, the road where the collision occurred was closed off for a scene survey (not a reconstruction, as was initially announced).

According to authorities, the survey yielded evidence that will help determine the speed at which the other vehicle was travelling. However, through its spokesperson, the police did not confirm claims made by the Deputy Mayor of Aglantzia, who alleged the 24-year-old was driving at triple the speed limit.

Police have stated publicly that they will not make any further comments on the matter at this time.
