Scam involving deceptive messages posing as Cyprus Police

Date:

A scam involving deceptive messages falsely claiming to be from the police has come to light.

The Cyprus Police continues to receive complaints regarding suspicious and misleading emails that are being sent out in bulk to the public. These emails falsely present themselves as coming from the Cyprus Police, attempting to deceive unsuspecting citizens by claiming they are involved in and must be charged for various online criminal offences (such as sexual assaults, rape, child pornography, etc.).

These fraudulent messages are sent from fake email addresses and bear forged Cyprus Police logos.

The Police wishes to inform the public that these emails are fraudulent and have no connection whatsoever to the Cyprus Police. The public is once again urged to exercise extreme caution and not to respond if such messages are received.

To verify any legitimate issue involving the Police, the public is encouraged to contact the official communication channels of the Cyprus Police.
