Around 70 fire-affected individuals in temporary shelters

Date:

Approximately 70 people who were evacuated from fire-stricken communities are currently being hosted in temporary Civil Defence shelters, spokesperson Panayiotis Liasides told the Cyprus News Agency (CNA).

According to Mr. Liasides, Civil Defence teams were mobilised from the very first moment in the communities affected by the recent wildfires.

He added that temporary shelters have been set up in Trimiklini, Pachna, and Polemidia, though the Polemidia site is not currently accommodating anyone.

“We have arranged and delivered water and food to Trimiklini and Pachna, and we will also supply them with sheets and pillows to get through the night. Tomorrow, we’ll reassess the situation — how many can return, how many cannot — depending on the condition of their homes, and we will then determine how to proceed,” he said.

When asked about the number of individuals currently hosted, he stated it is about 70 people — 50 in Trimiklini and 20 in Pachna.

He added that a reassessment will take place tomorrow morning to determine how many can return to their homes. For those whose houses have been damaged or destroyed, alternative solutions will be found.

“Solutions will certainly be found for everyone,” he concluded.
