Limassol fire reached Kyvides and Souni, situation is not good

Date:

The fire in Limassol is affecting homes on the outskirts of Kyvides and has reached Souni, according to Fire Service Spokesperson Andreas Kettis, who told CNA that the situation “is not good”.

Asked by CNA about the current situation, Kettis said that the fire had affected homes on the outskirts of Kyvides and had reached Souni, with firefighting forces working to protect homes.

“The situation is not good”, he said.

Earlier, it was announced that the communities of Agios Amvrosios, Kyvides and Souni were being evacuated, with the authorities appealing to people to avoid driving private vehicles towards these communities.

At the same time, the police are searching for a way to rescue 36 residents of Lofos from the fire front, which continues to rage uncontrollably in the Limassol district.

As the community council president, Giannos Neophytou, told CNA, despite the fact that the approximately 230 residents of the community had been informed in good time to evacuate, a number of residents remained in the village, which was eventually surrounded by flames.

“I reported that we had a problem and the police sent a bus from Agios Amvrosios before even that community was threatened”, he said, adding that 36 people were on the bus and waiting to be taken away under police escort.

He said he had been informed that everyone was waiting so that the passengers on the bus could be taken to a safe location at the earliest opportunity.
