A new yellow warning for extreme heat will come into effect on Friday, as Cyprus continues to endure yet another stretch of sweltering summer weather.
According to the Department of Meteorology, the warning will be in force between 12:00 and 17:00. Temperatures are expected to reach 40°C in inland areas and 32°C in the highest mountain regions, with warm and dry conditions persisting into the weekend.
Today’s forecast indicates that seasonal low pressure and a warm air mass are affecting the region. After early morning mist and low cloud clear, the weather will be mostly fine throughout the day.
Winds will initially be light and variable (around 3 Beaufort), later shifting to south-westerly to north-westerly and increasing to 3–4 Beaufort. In the afternoon, winds may reach up to 5 Beaufort along the southern coast. The sea will be generally slight.
Tonight, low cloud will increase locally, especially in western and northern areas. Mist and fog are expected to form again overnight in inland and southeastern areas. Overnight temperatures will fall to 21°C inland, 23°C on the southern and eastern coasts, and 20°C in the mountains.
The outlook for Saturday through Monday is mainly clear, although localised mist and low cloud may form overnight and in the early morning hours. Temperatures will remain above average for the time of year, with no significant change expected through the weekend.
