President Nicos Christodoulides is in Baku for the 29th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29).
President Christodoulides will attend today’s opening ceremony of the Heads of State and Government Summit, which will also be addressed by the United Nations Secretary-General.
According to a written statement by Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis, President Christodoulides will deliver an intervention during the National Statements of heads of state and government, where he will discuss the positions and actions of the Republic of Cyprus in addressing the impacts of climate change, as well as Cyprus’s regional role in this regard.
The President will also attend a dinner hosted in honour of the leaders of states participating in COP29 by the President of Azerbaijan.
President Christodoulides, who will return to Cyprus on Wednesday, is accompanied in Baku by Foreign Minister Konstantinos Kombos, Government Spokesperson, Political Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Thessalia Salina Shiampou, Director of the President’s Diplomatic Office Doros Venezis, and other officials.
