Storms and hail expected after midday today

Date:

Rain, thunderstorms, and hail are expected this afternoon, according to the Meteorological Service.

Temperatures will reach around 28°C inland, 25°C on the western coast, 27°C on other coastal areas, and 21°C in the higher mountains.

Forecast summary:

A weak low-pressure system is affecting the area.

This morning, the weather will be mostly clear with some localised cloud, but from midday onwards, increasing cloud cover is expected to bring isolated showers and thunderstorms, mainly in the mountains, inland areas, and parts of the north. Hail is also likely during storms.

Winds will be mainly southwesterly to northwesterly, light to moderate at 3–4 Beaufort, and occasionally moderate to strong (4–5 Beaufort) in windward coastal areas. Seas will be generally slight to locally moderate.

Tonight, skies will be mostly cloudy, with isolated showers and possibly a thunderstorm, mainly in the western half of the island. Winds will shift to mainly northeasterly to southeasterly, light to moderate (3–4 Beaufort), and moderate (4 Beaufort) at times near the coast. Seas will remain generally slight.

Overnight temperatures will drop to around 15°C inland, 18°C along the coast, and 9°C in the higher mountains.

Outlook:

Saturday: Partly cloudy to mostly cloudy with local showers and possibly isolated thunderstorms. Hail may occur during storms.
Sunday: Initially mostly clear with some local cloud, but increasing clouds from midday may bring isolated showers and thunderstorms, mainly in the mountains, inland and northern areas.
Monday: Similar pattern — mostly clear in the morning, with isolated showers developing later in the day. Thunderstorms are also possible, especially in mountainous and inland regions.

No significant change in temperature is expected through Monday, with readings remaining close to or slightly below the seasonal average.
