Two criminal organisations, which defrauded citizens in several regions of Greece, amassing around €630,000, have been dismantled following investigations by the Crime Investigation Division of Agrinio. According to police reports, evidence also points to fraudulent activities extending to Cyprus.

A total of 120 cases of fraud were uncovered, with seven members of the two organisations arrested in Attica, Corinth, and Kalamata. Additionally, the full identities of another 13 members of the organisations, along with 20 accomplices, have been identified.

Organisation One: Targeting Doctors and Professionals

The first criminal group, active since August 2024, primarily operated in Aetolia-Acarnania, Achaia, Messinia, Boeotia, Attica, Thessaloniki, Ioannina, Euboea, Edessa, Pella, Karditsa, Crete, the Dodecanese, Thira, and Corfu.
They carried out 80 fraudulent schemes, amassing around €465,000.
Their method involved posing as accountants, contacting potential victims- mainly doctors- and deceiving them into transferring money under various pretenses.

Organisation Two: Targeting the Elderly

The second organisation focused on elderly victims. Members posed as accountants or assistants, calling the victims to claim they were entitled to state subsidies or tax returns, then defrauding them of significant sums.
Police uncovered 40 cases of fraud, with the group accumulating around €164,000. The crimes spanned regions such as Attica, Thessaloniki, Aetolia-Acarnania, Kozani, Serres, Ioannina, Arta, Preveza, Trikala, Larisa, Phocis, Ilia, Kalamata, Kavala, Xanthi, Rodopi, Alexandroupoli, Lesbos, Thira, and Kos.

Ongoing Investigations

Police searches of homes and vehicles led to the discovery of seven cars, €3,700 in cash, bank cards, a large number of mobile phones and computers, SIM cards, mobile phone packages, and CCTV cameras installed in suspects’ homes.
The Agrinio Crime Investigation Division is continuing its investigations to identify further potential crimes. The suspects are expected to appear before the Aetolia-Acarnania Public Prosecutor.
