Date:

A 44-year-old woman remains in critical condition after being struck by a car during a traffic collision on Saturday evening in Nicosia.

The incident occurred on Saturday at around 7:30 p.m. at the junction of Stasinou and Salaminos Avenues. A vehicle driven by a 26-year-old man, under circumstances still under investigation, collided with a car driven by a 42-year-old woman. Following the collision, the 26-year-old’s vehicle veered off the road, hitting the 44-year-old, who was standing on the pavement.

The injured woman was rushed by ambulance to Nicosia General Hospital, where she was diagnosed with a skull fracture and admitted to the intensive care unit. Her condition is described by doctors as critical.

The 42-year-old driver was also transported to hospital, treated for minor injuries, and discharged. She underwent a breathalyser test which showed zero alcohol in her system.

The 26-year-old driver was similarly tested and found to have a blood alcohol concentration of 111μg%, far exceeding the legal limit of 22μg%. As a result, he was arrested and remains in custody to assist police with their inquiries.

On Sunday, police also arrested the 42-year-old driver under a court warrant in connection with the investigation. The Nicosia Traffic Department continues to examine the circumstances surrounding the collision.
