Dust in the air and cooler days ahead

Date:

Cyprus is expected to see a shift in weather conditions this week, with elevated dust levels and a noticeable drop in temperatures.

According to the Meteorological Department, thin dust will remain suspended in the atmosphere until Thursday, due to a weak low-pressure system. Dust concentrations may fluctuate throughout the day and could particularly affect sensitive individuals.

Today’s weather will be partly cloudy at times, mainly with mid- and high-level clouds. Winds will initially blow from the northwest to northeast at light to moderate strength (3 to 4 Beaufort), turning southwest to northwest by the afternoon, reaching up to 5 Beaufort along southern coasts. The sea will be slightly rough.

Temperature outlook

  • Inland: up to 33°C
  • South and east coasts: 27°C
  • West and north coasts: 24°C
  • Mountainous areas: 26°C

Tonight, skies will become mostly clear, and temperatures will drop sharply:

  • Inland: 12°C
  • West coast: 16°C
  • Other coastal areas: 14°C
  • Higher mountains: 9°C

The forecast ahead

  • Thursday: Partly cloudy with mid- and high-level cloud.
  • Friday and Saturday: Mostly cloudy with possible isolated showers. Thunderstorms are also likely on Saturday.
  • Temperatures will gradually decline, returning to seasonal averages.
