Odysseas accuses Presidential Office of cover-up in Nicosia report

Date:

Former Auditor General Odysseas Michaelides has voiced serious concern and dismay over what he claims is the weaponisation of the Audit Office by the President to cover up scandals.

He specifically alleges that the recent special report on a public-use building in Nicosia omits key information. According to Michaelides, the report fails to mention political dealings between the President and the building’s owner, even though the President having inaugurated the centre himself- despite it being illegal at the time.

Although the report documents significant violations, it does not acknowledge the President’s involvement or whether the matter will be referred to the Anti-Corruption Authority.

Michaelides says if the Audit Office fails to act, he will file the complaint himself after Easter.

He accuses President Christodoulides and his administration of perpetuating corruption rather than eliminating it, despite campaigning on the promise to clean up public governance.
