The Amateur Athletic Association of Cyprus (KOEAS) has been commended by the European Athletics Federation and national federations for the organization of the European Throwing Cup on 15 and 16 March 2025.

According to an announcement issued by KOEAS, the National Athletics Stadium – GSP welcomed on the weekend of 15 and 16 March the top athletes of the European throwing events, “who ensured with their performances the raise of the event’s total score to 10,186 points, exceeding by 147 the one achieved last year in Leiria”.
Although the Cup was held between two major indoor track and field events, the European and World Championships respectively, performances in some events were world-class and the competition was fierce, while new talents emerged, who are expected to take the lead soon, KOEAS says.
It is noted that the European Athletics Federation has “extended its warmest congratulations to KOEAS for the event, giving it a rating of almost Excellent”, with its president, Dobromir Karamarinov, noting that “Cypriot athletics is recording very significant successes, disproportionate to its small size and low budget compared to other countries”.
Pericles Markaris, President of KOEAS and Chairman of the Organising Committee, also expressed his pride in the contribution of all parties to the successful organisation of the 24th European Throwing Cup.
It is added that the German Athletics Federation, whose athletes won the 1st place in the medal table and all team categories, praised the event, the facilities of the GSP Stadium and the very warm weather for this time of year.
It is added that the German throwing team will stay in Nicosia for the next two weeks, continuing its preparation and taking advantage of GSP’s facilities and the welcoming weather of Cyprus, while recalling that athletes from Greece, Hungary, Poland, Germany and other countries have been preparing in Cyprus for years.
