Greek criminal lawyer Alexis Kougias dies at 74

The well-known criminal lawyer had been fighting for his life in recent days – He was hospitalised and intubated in the ICU of a private hospital.

Alexis Kougias, the renowned Greek criminal lawyer, passed away today, February 28, 2025, at the age of 74. He had been hospitalised in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a private hospital, where he was intubated due to a severe health deterioration. Approximately two weeks ago, he was admitted with a high fever, and his condition worsened, leading to his intubation in the early hours of Sunday, February 23.

Born on January 23, 1951, in Petroupoli, Attica, Kougias had a distinguished career in law, representing clients in numerous high-profile cases. His passing marks the end of an era in Greek legal circles.

In the days leading up to his death, his children, Christos and Maira Kougias, had requested privacy and respect during this challenging time. They expressed their distress over media intrusion and emphasized the need for discretion regarding their father’s health.

The legal community and the public mourn the loss of Alexis Kougias, whose contributions to Greek law have left an indelible mark.
