Two young men in custody for illegal drug possession case

Date:

Two young men, aged 18 and 19, have been arrested to facilitate police investigations regarding an ongoing case of illegal drug possession.

According to a statement from the Police Communications Branch, “following an evaluation of information, members of the Drug Law Enforcement Unit (DLEU) proceeded with the arrest of two young men, aged 18 and 19, in Larnaca on the afternoon of Monday, 24 February.”

The two suspects “were spotted outside a storage room of an apartment building in Larnaca and, upon seeing the police officers, attempted to flee by pushing members of the DLEU. However, they were unsuccessful. During their arrest, a bag carried by the 18-year-old fell to the ground, containing approximately 819 grams of cannabis, 39 grams of methamphetamine, and a sum of money.”

With the written consent of the two young men, “a search was conducted in the storage room, where 24 grams of cannabis plant material, 3 grams of cocaine, and a precision scale were found.”

The two suspects have been placed in custody and are expected to be brought before the Larnaca District Court today for the issuance of detention orders.

The case is being investigated by the Larnaca District Branch of the DLEU.
