ExxonMobil to brief Cyprus authorities on block 5 drilling in March

Date:

Vice President of ExxonMobil John Ardill will be in Cyprus in the second week of March to inform the authorities about the results of drilling that is underway in block 5 of Cyprus’ exclusive economic zone, President Nikos Christodoulides said on Monday evening.

President Christodoulides was replying to journalist’s questions, on the sidelines of a book presentation about the energy agreements signed earlier in the day in Cairo, he said that these are “historic agreements” and a defining day for the future of the energy plans of Cyprus, with the participation of the companies operating in its exclusive economic zone.

The President noted that it is not only Cyprus and Egypt, but also the companies involved and this is the important step.

He went on to say that “there are very specific timetables for how we proceed and the sole goal is to serve the interests of the Cyprus people.”

President Christodoulides also said that he also had a very constructive meeting with the Vice President of Exxon, in Cairo, in relation to the drilling that is underway.

He said that results are expected soon as the Vice President will visit Cyprus himself to inform the authorities, adding that “the Republic of Cyprus’ energy plans are progressing normally.”

The President said that Exxon high ranking official informed him about the picture of the ongoing drilling. He refrained from giving more details pointing to the upcoming visit in the second week of March.
