Cypriot athletes win silver and bronze at Karate Championship

Cyprus has secured a bronze medal at the U16 European Karate Championship, which is held in Poland.

According to the Cyprus Karate Federation, Cypriot athlete Anna Michaelidou has won the bronze medal with 5 wins. 

She defeated the champions of Hungary, Croatia, Montenegro, and Germany, while losing in the semi-final to the champion of Greece. She defeated the champion of Serbia in the small final and won the bronze medal.

Loizos Vasiliou also impressed in the U21 -84kg category, securing victories against the champions of Estonia, Montenegro, the Netherlands, and France. Thanks to these achievements, he earned a spot in the final of his category. Vasiliou competed for the Gold Medal, aiming to replicate his triumph from August 2021, when he won Cyprus’ first-ever gold medal in a European Championship. He managed to be crowned European Silver Champion in the U21 -84kg Category in Bielsko-Biała, Poland.

These successes confirm the steady rise of Cypriot karate on the European sporting map. The athletes competing in Poland are delivering outstanding performances, demonstrating a high level of preparation and dedication. Congratulations are due not only to the competitors but also to their coaches and the entire Cypriot delegation, who actively support this important effort.
