Achilleas Pilias, a Mechanical Engineer at the Department of Electromechanical Services, recently shared insights on Protoselido about the performance and progress of traffic camera systems in 2024.
According to Pilias, fixed cameras recorded 225,000 traffic violations, while mobile cameras accounted for an additional 75,000, bringing the total to 300,000 fines issued.
Encouragingly, Pilias noted a steady decline in violations as more drivers are complying with traffic laws. This shift reflects a growing culture of road safety and awareness among the public.
He also confirmed that the second phase of the programme has been successfully completed, and no further cameras will be installed. The system is now fully operational, comprising 90 fixed cameras at 30 locations and 20 mobile cameras.
The locations for camera installation were carefully chosen by the police to maximise road safety and ensure effective monitoring.
With the programme now fully implemented, authorities are hopeful that these systems will continue to reduce traffic violations and enhance safety on the roads.
