A food delivery rider reported an assault and mobile phone theft to the police on Tuesday evening, following an incident in Limassol. According to the 19-year-old delivery rider’s complaint, a man attacked him, stole his mobile phone, and fled the scene.
The incident, partially captured in a video circulating on social media, shows the man demanding €400 in compensation for damage allegedly caused to his car by the rider. The police are investigating both the assault and theft after the official complaint was filed.
Based on the investigation so far, the incident occurred at approximately 7:00 PM on Tuesday. While the rider was cycling in Limassol, under circumstances still being investigated, he collided with a car ahead of him. The driver of the car, a 54-year-old man, exited the vehicle, approached the rider, and began shouting, demanding immediate compensation of €400 for the damage. The man then stole the rider’s mobile phone and physically assaulted him by striking his face before leaving the scene in his vehicle. Fortunately, the rider was not injured during the altercation.
Later that evening, the rider reported the incident to the Limassol Police Station. Upon receiving the complaint, police officers began searching for the man and his vehicle. The investigation led to the identification of the suspect, who later voluntarily presented himself to the police and returned the stolen mobile phone.
The 54-year-old was subsequently arrested and formally questioned. He was charged in writing and is set to appear in court. Police investigations into the case are ongoing.
